Following root canal treatment on permanent teeth, there should be little or no post pain. However, in 2% of cases, there may be some pain and swelling after the treatment. If this occurs, please contact the surgery.
In milk teeth, there should be little or no discomfort after root canal treatment. However as the root-treated tooth is usually covered by a crown, children may become aware of the alteration of the tooth surface which affects the bite and can they can perceive this as pain. If your child experiences discomfort, we advise that you give them one dose of analgesia, of the type your child is normally used to when they suffer a cold. This should help the tooth settle down. It can take 2-3 days for your child to get used to the crown.
